I yearn.
I yearn to know the secrets of history and the scars it left behind, the wars and harmonies and the lost diaries of soldiers. Myths, Greek and Roman, throw in some Norse and Egyptian. Folklore of the Chinese and Japanese, along with Mongolian and Indian. Bring in tribal epics of the Sioux and the Amei and the Maori and the Inuit. I live for the lives of Renaissance painters and the fresh minds from the Enlightenment.
I yearn to know about life in the sea and the ebb and flow of the tides. I want to dwell in the deepest depths and float in the calmest pools. I want to fly and study the animals of heaven and burrow with the creatures of the earth. I want to ride the winds and gallop across fields and learn the language of life.
I yearn to understand the tongues of others, to speak every language and sign every symbol. To write a story to last a thousand eons and as shocking as lightning strikes, to paint a painting worth a million words and ten times the drops of tears. I want to map out every museum, church, cathedral, and landmark, to travel and witness and revel and love.
I yearn to meet the ethereal, to walk the moon with my own two feet and finally reach for the stars. Let outer space chill my bones and make me covet Earth’s warmth once again. Rocket away with meteors and comets and feel my heart expand into its own universe inside my chest.
Where do I start? I ask myself.
I know too little to answer that question.
